Records worth staying in for

Some nights, the best concert is at home. Nine albums for evenings when you do not go out.

Not every evening has to end in a club. Some of the best nights of the year happen at home, with a record playing from beginning to end and nobody reaching for the remote.

Our nine choices are albums meant to be heard in order: late-night jazz, a few piano records, one live album that sounds like a room full of friends. Put one on, turn the lights down and let it play through both sides.

The rule is the same as in a club: no skipping, no phones, and the volume a little higher than you think.
